Team Fortress 2 Pyro update gets a release date

I recently got back into the addicting mayhem of Team Fortress 2, so I, like many others, have been patiently waiting for the promised Pyro update that will add several new weapons to the class’ repertoire as well as add new achievements.

Well the wait is almost over, as website Rock Paper Shotgun has confirmed that the Pyro update will go live this Thursday. The upgrade will include three new weapons for the Pyro (of which only one has been revealed) along with 35 new Pyro-specific achievements. The update will also include two new user-created maps, Valve’s way to "highlight the great work being done in the community and distribute those works to all TF2 players."

No details were revealed as to what the weapons, achievements, or maps will be. At least we don’t have to wait very long to find out.

Last but not least, the latest in the "Meet the Class" shorts, Meet the Sniper, will be released tomorrow. Rock Paper Shotgun had the chance to see the latest short and they say it’s the best one released so far (which is definitely saying something). So that’s another thing to look forward to.

Hopefully the Pyro update will restore the class to its former self. Pyro has steadily been getting less viable as a class as time goes on thanks to the strategies that have developed. What I’m not looking forward to, however, is the inevitable surge of Pyro players all rushing to unlock the achievements and new weapons. This happened when the Medic update went live and it completely destroyed the cooperative aspect of the game.

Regardless, it’s pleasantly surprising how quickly Valve got this update out. Let’s just hope that the final product doesn’t feel rushed.
