The 30-Day Gamer Challenge – Day 21

Shenmue

The game you most regret not playing yet

I feel like this one is a toss-up between Final Fantasy VI and Shenmue. Both are classic, significant, must-play games, and I believe I will enjoy both once I finally do get around to playing them. Because of its unconventional and polarizing design, though, I have to go with Shenmue. It’s just a bit more interesting than simply being "one of the best role-playing games of all time" — a common honor bestowed upon FF6 — and seems to have done more to shake up the way people looked at game design during its time.

Never having owned a Dreamcast, I feel like I’ve missed out on something important to the videogame industry in Shenmue, yet it is also a game that I have remained almost embarrassingly ignorant about, in hopes that I would one day get to experience it as originally intended, which is to say, unspoiled. I will make this happen; I guarantee it.
