The Flap Over the Wii Mystery Flap Is Answered

With so little information coming out about the full capabilities of Nintendo,s Wii, it seems that even a little mysterious cover flap on the game console,s front can generate news. So the flap over the flap, so to speak, has been answered in part by none other than the president of Nintendo America operations, Reggie Fils-Aime in a short interview conducted by Game Informer magazine.

When asked what the secret flap was covering, Fils-Aime said, “That is where an SD card goes. That’s storable media. And on top, are the attachments for the GameCube controllers. [SD] will be one of the memory mediums, and it’s the only one that we’ve announced.” So with the utterance of just a few sentences, Fils-Aime has confirmed that the Wii will provide support for GameCube controllers in addition to SD card media storage. But his phrase that SD media cards are the only one that they have announced raises speculation that the SD memory units will only be one of many other forms of storage for the Wii.

Last year, in March of 2005, CEO Satoru Iwata made comments regarding the two USB ports found on the Wii by saying, "practically any storage method can be used.” His statements opens up a wide range of possibilities for the Wii such as hard drives, flash drives and other USB compatible units not necessarily confined to just storage medium. While no further comments were made about the plans for the USB ports, it does provide more speculation as to what the Wii can do.
