Ubisoft Nabs Far Cry

Lately, the Far Cry franchise has had much to be happy about. Ubisoft, the publisher of the Far Cry series, has released the latest in the Far Cry franchise: Far Cry: Instincts – Evolution and Far Cry: Instincts – Predator, which combines the original Far Cry game as well as Far Cry Evolution. Amongst all that came the announcement that Ubisoft has purchased all rights to the first-person sci-fi series, Far Cry. Ubisoft purchased the franchise from German developer, CryTek. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the deal did cover both the intellectual property itself as well as a "perpetual license to use the CryENGINE Far Cry Edition.” The graphical powerhouse CryENGINE is the structure for all titles in the Far Cry franchise, including the upcoming next generation title, Crysis. Crysis recently debuted in all its glory at the GDC last week. Ubisoft's purchase of the franchise was viewed as a safety precaution to secure the franchise in the aftermath of the CryTek long-term development deal with Ubisoft archrival EA .
