Valve bans BioShock from the office

valvelogoIn some playful competitive spirit, Valve boss Gabe Newell laid down the law when it came to playing BioShock at the Valve office. Newell said, "We had to ban BioShock from our offices. Nobody gets to play it until Orange Box is done – that’s our reward to ourselves as a company; everyone gets a copy of BioShock."

In the highly competitive game world, it’s always nice to see developers play each others’ games and give the proper credit when its due. Valve certainly respects the work Irrational Games (2K Boston/Australia) do. Newell admits that he hasn’t had a chance to play BioShock yet but is really looking forward to it.

Speaking about giving credit when its due, Newell said in regards to Irrational Games:

"Irrational is the latest example of people who’ve descended from the id Software/Looking Glass family tree. Somebody should do a family tree of id and Looking Glass and it might turn out that there’s nobody left who isn’t a descendent of those two companies."

The Orange Box will be shipping to retail on October 9th and will be available on Steam at 12:01 AM on October 10th.
