w00t is now officially a dictionary word. w00t!

dictionaryEvery year, Merriam-Webster, the folks responsible for the dictionaries all of us use during our school careers and beyond, have announced their annual "Word of the Year," list. This time around, the top word was a gaming word–none other than the often used, "w00t."

In the odd and strange situation that you don’t know what w00t means, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, w00t is, "…expressing joy (it could be after a triumph, or for no reason at all); similar in use to the word ‘yay.’ Ex: ‘w00t! I won the contest.!’"

Now, all of us can use w00t legitimately in our term papers and advanced composition classes. I’m not too sure if the English department will be too thrilled about that.

What came in second on the list? The word "facebook."

I’m glad that w00t won. Somehow facebook doesn’t have the same pizzazz. And yes, that’s a word in the dictionary too.
