What a shock, Supreme Commander is delayed

The saga continues. Delays, delays, delays. The next game to fall victim to a delay this generation is Supreme Commander for the Xbox 360. The game, which came out for the PC 13 months ago, was originally slated to come out early next month for the 360, but has gotten pushed back. RTS fans are looking at a "late spring early summer" release.

I guess Ayspire is having troubles with controls? It certainly couldn’t be coding for animations, what with DirectX being in both the 360 and the PC. Have they realized that RTS controls aren’t good on consoles, regardless of how much I crave them?

Seriously, this delay thing is starting to get frustrating. It has gotten to the point where I don’t even pay attention to release dates. There is no point in waiting, hoping and counting down the days for a game. Chances are, it’s getting delayed. Games that were supposed to be holiday releases are still making their way to the market.

I have always been a firm believer that delays are a good thing. It means developers are not rushing a game out the door only to fix it in the patch. But it’s getting out of hand. Listen marketing departments around the world, and heed my advice: don’t announce a release date, or month, or even year for your game. With, what feels like, 3 out of 4 games getting delayed, it’s better to announce later than sooner. Making your consumers angry is not a road I would recommend traveling.
