Wii as powerful as the original Xbox

oringXboxFIFA producer Tim Tschirner said in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz that the Nintendo Wii matches the original Xbox in power. He elaborated that although the Wii’s video hardware is a little less than the Xbox, "There’s just a couple of key things that you can do on Xbox like shaders which you just cannot do on the Wii."

The gaming market is definitely in the area where video hardware and graphics are very important. While the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC can definitely provide games with astounding visuals, the Wii is lagging behind.

But the Wii is not geared towards the hardcore visuals crowd; instead it’s more for family and friend entertainment. In addition, the Wii is geared towards people who don’t normally play games, while the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC are geared towards the hardcore gaming crowd.

Tschirner stated, "That’s a bit of a philosophy that we wanted to get into this game as well – that people don’t have to be afraid of finding the control scheme overwhelming or overly demanding. And then on the flip-side, we wanted to make sure that long-term FIFA players would find everything they love in the game still in place."

In order to capture the gaming market, all the platforms need to cater to different people. Not everyone will want to have insane visuals, while others will want calm and appealing visuals. So far, the Wii seems to be hitting its share nicely since Nintendo is cranking out Wii and DS sales like no other.
