Work on 360 version of UT3 halted until 2008

UT3A number of news sites were running stories earlier in the week relating to comments made by Mark Rein, VP of Epic Games.

Mark Rein was quoted as saying "The PS3 is an open system, and they embrace user-created content. But there isn’t really a way to do that on the 360. So our job, when we finish the PS3 version, and we’ve taken a little break, is to sit down with Microsoft and to figure out how we can do mods on their system. We won’t even start working on it until early next year." This came as a bit of a shock to a lot of people, with the original idea of UTs being on the 360 in early to mid 2008 flying out the window.

In an interview the following day, Mark Rein cleared up the issue, saying "What I probably should have said was ‘start working on it again’. We had the game up and running on all three platforms up until last spring." PHEW! Hopefully this means that 360 owners will indeed be playing the game sometime in early-mid 2008.

In somewhat related news, RaptoR from over at PlanetUnreal has posted more than 200 high quality pictures from UT3. He managed to get a German copy of the game and an English patcher and says he has been having a grand old time. Enjoy!

Unreal Tournament 3 is already out in Germany (albeit with certain content removed), and is set for release on Nov 19th in North America, Nov 23rd in Europe and Nov 30th in Australia/New Zealand.
