World Series of Video Games Coming

Forget about the Winter Olympics. We know you™re all glued to the television set watching the skating events, but pull yourself away for just a moment because the following story may make you richer than what Billy Gates makes in 20 seconds. The William Morris Agency, a mega giant in the film and print agency business, has announced that it will put on the first ever World Series of Video Games contests. At the moment, the other big runner in this field is the Cyberathlete Professional League, which has put on several e-sports events in the past six years. The CPL will be assisting, along with other game groups, in the new video competition events. Games Media Productions, a division of the William Morris Agency, will run and organize the event. The sponsors of the WSVG will be Microsoft and Intel. The first games will occur in June of this year in Louisville, Kentucky and will take place in other countries as well. The grand prize for the winner will be an astonishing $1 million. The finals for the WSVG will be in December and will use the PC and Xbox platforms. The titles for the competition will be announced in the near future. Matthew Ringel, CEO of Games Media Properties said, “Video games are the entertainment of choice for millions of people worldwide and competition and achievement are of paramount importance to gamers. In bringing together some of the most well-known tournaments, the best gamers and unprecedented media exposure, the World Series of Video Games will help promote a new class of champions, and bring the excitement of gaming competitions to a wider audience.” We sure hope that this event will be broadcast on ESPN or ABC Sports.
