Xbox Live hosting worldwide Pac-Man competition

Before there was Gears, before there was Halo, and before there was Half-Life, gamers battled with each other (via high scored) in a little game called Pac-Man. Pac-Man is still among us and the evidence of that is proven by what Microsoft and Namco are planning. The two industry giants are planning a worldwide Xbox Live Pac-Man World Championship contest.

All leaderboards on Xbox Live on Pac-Man will be reset and everyone will start from square one in their rush to become the number one Pac-Man king or queen. The competition will run between April 25 and May 9, with the winner going to New York City to receive the rewards and spoils for being the best Pac-Man gamer in the world.

Toru Iwatani, who got the idea of making the Pac-Man game while looking at a pizza pie with one slice missing said, "Namco Bandai Games and I are proud to partner with Microsoft on the Xbox 360 Pac-Man World Championship, which celebrates how popular Pac-Man remains to this day. The success of Pac-Man stems from its fun gameplay and host of characters that have been enjoyed by families for generations. It will be exciting to see Pac-Man fans from around the world compete on Xbox Live Arcade to become the first-ever Pac-Man World Champion."

If you think you’ve got what it takes to kick some Pac-Man butt, log onto Microsoft’s official contest site for more details.
