Crytek to develop next Homefront game

Crysis 2

THQ released some big news earlier today in a press release, revealing that videogame company Crytek will be handling development duties on the next Homefront title.

Danny Bilson, EVP Core Games for THQ, explained how Crytek’s past FPS experience with games like Far Cry and Crysis 2 made it a strong choice for developer of the upcoming franchise entry.

"Selecting Crytek to take Homefront forward underscores our strategy of working with the industry’s best talent," he said. "Homefront’s unique setting and storyline captivated gamers the world over. With Crytek’s industry leading technology and legendary experience in the FPS genre, we’re supremely confident that the next Homefront will deliver that AAA-quality experience that players demand."

Cevat Yerli, Founder, CEO and President of Crytek, talked about how the impressive Homefront universe provides his company with a solid framework.

"We see Homefront as a really strong universe that has a lot of potential and that has been expertly created and marketed by THQ," he said. "We believe that bringing our level of quality, creativity and production values to the next Homefront title, creates an opportunity for both THQ and Crytek to deliver a truly blockbuster game. It’s really important to us that THQ has the faith in giving us a lot of creative freedom over one of its most important properties to allow us to bring the Homefront world to life in a new and innovative way."

The next Homefront title won’t come out until THQ’s 2014 fiscal year, but with Crytek’s involvement, it’s certainly a game fans should be looking forward to.

My first experience playing a video game blew me away. The fact that Super Metroid was that game certainly helped. So I like to think Samus put me on the path to video games. Well, I guess my parents buying the SNES had a little something to do with it. Ever since then my passion for video games has grown. When I found that I could put words together into a coherent sentence, videogame journalism was a natural interest. Now I spend a large majority of my time either playing video games or writing about them, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
