DC Universe Online gets release date

DC Universe Online

DC Universe Online was delayed from this November to 2011 earlier this year, but the wait won’t be too long. The superhero MMO’s new release date is now January 11, 2011 in the US and the 14th in Europe for both the PC and PlayStation 3.

Select PC and PlayStation 3 gamers are currently getting a chance to try the game as it is in beta. According to Sony Online Entertainment’s statistics Superman is the most popular "mentor" among heroes, and overall about 60 percent of players are choosing heroes instead of villains.

Game director Chris Cao has something special planned for the end of the beta.

"Jim Lee and our friends at DC are going to join us in a live, end-of-beta event where players will fight alongside and against the iconics as Brainiac’s menace yet looms," Cao explained. "Players will be able to experience what would’ve happened had they followed in the footsteps of the cinematic and battled each other instead of fighting to save Earth. It will be an epic end and thank you for beta."

My first experience playing a video game blew me away. The fact that Super Metroid was that game certainly helped. So I like to think Samus put me on the path to video games. Well, I guess my parents buying the SNES had a little something to do with it. Ever since then my passion for video games has grown. When I found that I could put words together into a coherent sentence, videogame journalism was a natural interest. Now I spend a large majority of my time either playing video games or writing about them, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
