First UNCHARTED 3: Drake's Deception details emerge

Many things have now been officially confirmed about the next UNCHARTED game. For one, it is coming, and for two, it is going to be called UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception. Rumors about the title and the existence of a teaser trailer have been all over the internet, but this Entertainment Weekly story confirms many of those web whisperings.

The trailer for UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception, will be premiering at the Spike VGA’s on December 11th. In fact, you can hop over to the Entertainment Weekly story to see an incredibly short sneak peak at Saturday’s trailer. Along with the news of the trailer and game title, EW also had a surprisingly large amount of information about the game.

The game will apparently be heavily focusing on the relationship between Drake and his pal, Victor "Sully" Sullivan. This is great news, because the relationship between the two characters has never really been established, only acknowledged. Drake will be searching for a legendary lost city in the Arabian Peninsula and the Rub’ al Khali Desert, also known as the Empty Quarter. The city in question is known as, "Iram of the Pillars" or "Atlantis of the Sands". As far as real world references, because the Uncharted series likes to be based at least somewhat in reality, the game will be drawing from the life of archaeologist T.E. Lawrence.

In the technical advancements department, the team took on a dessert setting because they wanted to try something difficult, and sand is pretty hard. Hopefully they can do for sand what they were able to do for snow in UNCHARTED 2, which is a very strange sentence to write.

Naughty Dog, the developers behind the UNCHARTED series, were very vocal about their interest in online multiplayer, and how they want to be able to compete with the Halos and Call of Duties in the online world. Cooperative and competitive multiplayer will be greatly expanded, and it was very briefly mentioned that zombies will fit in there somehow.

No news on a release date, other than 2011, but it’s likely that the game will coincide with the release of the upcoming UNCHARTED novel, UNCHARTED: The Fourth Labyrinth, which has a fall release date.

That’s all for now, until Saturday night, but it’s a good bit of information, and it’s good to know that we can expect the game next year.

Naughty Dog takes on the ultimate elemental challenge: Sand.

Now Drake chase's after the legend left behind by T.H. Lawrence.
