Game of Thrones RPG details, trailer revealed

Game of Thrones

Publisher Focus Home Interactive has reveleaed some new details regarding Game of Thrones, an upcoming RPG from developer Cyanide Studio.

Just like the popular HBO TV show, the game will be based on the series of novels titled “A Song of Ice and Fire” by George R.R. Martin. The story is being written “under the supervision” of Martin.

Players will take the roles of both Mors, sworn brother of the Night’s Watch, and Alester, a Red Priest in search of redemption. Locales include the Wall and King’s Landing, and there will be some familiar faces in the game as well.

As far as visual inspiration goes, Game of Thrones is being built with Epic’s Unreal Engine 3.

All of the RPG staples will be featured throughout the game, including loot, experience, and plenty of weapons. Also noteworthy is the combat system, which allows players to slow down time.

No firm release date has been set, but the game is expected to come out for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 in early 2012.

The game’s first trailer can be viewed below.

My first experience playing a video game blew me away. The fact that Super Metroid was that game certainly helped. So I like to think Samus put me on the path to video games. Well, I guess my parents buying the SNES had a little something to do with it. Ever since then my passion for video games has grown. When I found that I could put words together into a coherent sentence, videogame journalism was a natural interest. Now I spend a large majority of my time either playing video games or writing about them, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
