Guinness World Records holding a record-setting LBP 2 competition

To celebrate the launch of its 2011 Gamer’s Edition, Gunniess World Records announced today that it will be holding a video game competition featuring LittleBigPlanet 2. The "eye-blearing" event will run from January 17-19, 2011 at the Sony Style store’s PlayStation Lounge, located in New York City.

According to the press release, a group of "top-gamers" will participate in the event and compete in several different LBP 2 challenges. Winners of the competition will forever be apart of Guiness World Records history if they get the best score in the following events:

* Longest Marathon Playing LittleBigPlanet 2
* Longest Marathon Playing A Platform Video Game
* Most Video Game Genres Played In One Video Game 24 Hours
* Most User-Generated Video Game Levels Played In 24 Hours
* Most User Generated Video Game Levels Played In A Marathon 

"Continuing its work of recording astounding achievements, Guinness World Records will be on hand at the launch of LittleBigPlanet 2 to monitor the record attempt and see gamers push their hobby to the limits of human endurance," says Guinness World Records Gaming Editor Gaz Deaves. "LittleBigPlanet already holds a Guinness World Record for its outstanding online community and the Gamer’s Edition is full of amazing feats from every corner of the videogames universe."

Within the "video game bible" are several other notable gaming records, including: Longest Video Games Marathon on a First Person Shooter (33 hours), Longest Video Games Marathon Playing a Racing Game (30 hours) and Longest Video Games Marathon on a Dance/Rhythm Game (13 hr 33 min 56 sec).  

LittleBigPlanet 2 is set to launch on January 18, 2011. The 2011 Gamer’s Edition will be coming out two days later for $14.99.
