Insomniac introduces web-based Resistance game

Global Resistance

Gamers still have to wait over a month for Resistance 3 to hit store shelves, but Insomniac Games has created something to make the wait a little more tolerable.

The developer has launched a web-based game set in the acclaimed series’ universe. Titled Global Resistance, the online title will have you managing bases and troops on either the human or Chimera side.

Having played the browser-based game for a short while, Global Resistance is a surprisingly fun and robust experience. Best of all, it ties into the upcoming third entry in the series. This means rewards such as concept art and character skins will be unlocked in Resistance 3 the more and more you play Global Resistance.

Dragon Age II and Fable III recently introduced online tie-in games for promotional purposes. The results were reasonably positive in both those cases, so it’s not surprising that Insomniac decided to go that route as well.

Resistance 3 is set for a September 6 release date on the PlayStation 3.

My first experience playing a video game blew me away. The fact that Super Metroid was that game certainly helped. So I like to think Samus put me on the path to video games. Well, I guess my parents buying the SNES had a little something to do with it. Ever since then my passion for video games has grown. When I found that I could put words together into a coherent sentence, videogame journalism was a natural interest. Now I spend a large majority of my time either playing video games or writing about them, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
