Large Hadron Collider renamed Halo

I’m sure you’ve heard of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The controversial rig (and even more controversial experiment) hopes to unlock all sorts of mysteries, but plenty of skeptics and conspiracy theorists are claiming it could end up destroying the world instead.

To try and appeal to more people, the scientists in charge decided to hold a contest to rename it, given that Large Hadron Collider wasn’t exactly the friendliest title. Thousands of people submitted new names, including The Matter Splatter, Puff the Magic Hadron, Black Mesa, and The Infernal Machine but the final winner was one all gamers should be familiar with: Halo.

The circle of light reflects the collider’s form; it is a crowning achievement of science and engineering. It also gives more than a nod to the experiment’s importance to religious debate," said the Society spokesman.

What they failed to realize is that for many people, having a gigantic machine of that nature named Halo conjures all sorts of other imagery. I wasn’t worried at all about the experiments before… But now…
