Nintendo sells 1.5 million consoles during Thanksgiving week

wiis

When faced with all manner of motion controlled gaming options over the week starring Black Friday (co-starring Thanksgiving), consumers seemed to go for the classics, which just seems appropriate when it comes to Nintendo. We’re not quite sure how Microsoft and Sony fared over the holiday week yet, but Nintendo is proudly trumpeting their personal success to all who accept e-mails from them.

Between November 21st and 27th, Nintendo sold 900,000 Nintendo DS handheld systems, and 600,000 Wii consoles. Those are some pretty strong numbers for a company that was showing the first signs of a saturated market a few weeks ago. Something about new console colors, a frantic shopping holiday (is Black Friday a holiday?) and ingested turkey must have all come together to create a new surge in Nintendo demand. It was either all of those things, or Donkey Kong Country Returns.
