PlayStation 3 gets price cut

PS3

At this year’s Gamescom, Sony closed its keynote address with an important announcement: the PlayStation 3 is now just $249.99.

SCEA President & CEO Jack Tretton took to the PlayStation Blog to address the big news. The $250 price tag applies to the 160GB model, while the 320GB model is now $299.99.

A limited edition inFAMOUS 2 bundle was also revealed. For $300 customers receive a 320GB PS3, a copy of inFAMOUS 2, and a 30-day membership to PlayStation Plus.

In addition, Sony’s Andrew House has confirmed that the $50 price drop goes effective today. So any potential PS3 customers have a pretty good reason to purchase the console now.

Lastly, Tretton hinted at some important future plans for Sony and the PlayStation 3.

"We have many exciting things planned for you in the months ahead, but suffice it to say we are hard at work to bring you more of what you want and more of what you expect," he said. "Stay tuned, there’s more to come…"

My first experience playing a video game blew me away. The fact that Super Metroid was that game certainly helped. So I like to think Samus put me on the path to video games. Well, I guess my parents buying the SNES had a little something to do with it. Ever since then my passion for video games has grown. When I found that I could put words together into a coherent sentence, videogame journalism was a natural interest. Now I spend a large majority of my time either playing video games or writing about them, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
