PlayStation 3 sales skyrocket on Amazon

PS3

Yesterday Sony announced a $50 price drop for the PlayStation 3. Now sales on the online retailer Amazon have increased immensely in the past 24 hours.

The bundle packages have been doing especially well, with the 320GB PS3/PlayStation Move bundle going up by 450 percent. The $300 inFAMOUS 2 bundle has also proven popular, topping the "movers and shakers in video games" category on Amazon.

The standalone PS3 isn’t too far behind though. Sales for that system have shot up 366 percent over the past day.

Lastly, PS3 software has also seen a significant increase in sales. In particular, Tomb Raider Trilogy went up more than 1,000 percent and is currently holding the number two spot on the "movers and shakers in video games."

Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter recently predicted a 30 percent sales increase for the PS3 due to the price drop. Considering the system’s success on Amazon so far, that doesn’t seem like an unreasonable estimate.

My first experience playing a video game blew me away. The fact that Super Metroid was that game certainly helped. So I like to think Samus put me on the path to video games. Well, I guess my parents buying the SNES had a little something to do with it. Ever since then my passion for video games has grown. When I found that I could put words together into a coherent sentence, videogame journalism was a natural interest. Now I spend a large majority of my time either playing video games or writing about them, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
