SW: The Old Republic

Star Wars: The Old Republic, the highly anticipated MMORPG from BioWare, has seen plenty of coverage in 2011. Now gamers will also be able to purchase the game later this year.

BioWare co-founders Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuk announced a December 20 release date during their keynote address at the 2011 Eurogamer Expo. Muzyka expressed his company’s excitement and thanked fans for their patience.

"This is an incredible moment for everyone at BioWare and our partners at LucasArts who have dedicated their lives to build this extraordinary game," he said. "We appreciate the patience from the millions of fans who have been waiting for the game’s release."

The monthly subscription fees for The Old Republic were also detailed. The cost will be $15 for one month, $42 for three months, and $78 for six months.

People who have pre-ordered The Old Republic are eligible for early access to the game. Anyone still wanting to place a pre-order can do so here.

My first experience playing a video game blew me away. The fact that Super Metroid was that game certainly helped. So I like to think Samus put me on the path to video games. Well, I guess my parents buying the SNES had a little something to do with it. Ever since then my passion for video games has grown. When I found that I could put words together into a coherent sentence, videogame journalism was a natural interest. Now I spend a large majority of my time either playing video games or writing about them, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
