Team Ico Launches Last Guardian Japanese Website

The Last Guardian has been one of those games that has stayed a pretty consistent mystery due to the lack of previews or other news about it.  Fortunately, Team ICO has launched a Japanese website (click here to visit) for the game with screens and a few videos.  Although most American gamers won’t be able to actually read the entries or understand the video dialogue, the beautiful environments and character designs speak for themselves.

So far, as previously mentioned, not too much is really known about the gameplay elements of The Last Guardian, and the story remains elusive as well. What does seem apparent, however, is that this game will likely draw a number of parallels to previous Team ICO games, like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus (GamerNode’s winner of the "Game of the Games of the Decade"). The environments have the same kind of gorgeous, artistic, lonely look about them, and the game centers around the relationship between the main character, an unknown boy, and his animal companion.  In the videos on the new site, you can see Team ICO boss Fumito Ueda taking extreme care in animating the animal sidekick, which appears to be a rat/dog/bird/lion creature. The Japanese name for the game, Hitokui no Owashi Trico, roughly translates to "Trico, the Man-Eating Sea Eagle", but little else is really known about this epic new sidekick.

No release date has been announced for The Last Guardian, which will be released exclusively on PS3.
