"We have more support from EA than Ubisoft," says Crytek

crysisshotCrytek is certainly enjoying their time with EA; Crysis is looking dynamite and Crytek is as popular as ever. But it looks like EA has been offering Crytek much more support to the German developer than when they were with Ubisoft.

Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek, said, "Everything’s just bigger. From a business point of view, we have more support from EA and superior distribution and marketing power behind us, more freedom."

Nonetheless, Yerli doesn’t totally pass off Ubisoft; he said that without Far Cry, Crytek wouldn’t be where they are today, "It comes after Far Cry too; that established us in a different position." Also he thanked Ubisoft and CEO Yves Guillemot for taking a risk on Far Cry, considering it was the debut game for a relatively unknown company at the time.

"…It worked out, but it drained on the level of trust between us. But despite the fact it was rough at the end, I would like to say big thanks to Ubisoft and Yves Guillemot for taking the risk with us. If they hadn’t done it, we would never have survived."

Unfortunately, there appears to be some harboring bad feelings between Ubisoft and Crytek; Ubisoft is pursuing Far Cry 2 without the series’ creator and they made several console games without Crytek’s support. Also with the current news that EA may be on the way to acquire Ubisoft, that’ll make for some possible awkward situations in the future.
