360 Sales Boosts Microsoft's Entertainment Division by 70%

The Xbox 360 looks to be clearly heading for profitability soon, as recent earnings figures from Microsoft show that the 360 has increased sales in the Entertainment and Devices division by 70%. For the period between July-September, revenues rose to $1.03 billion compared to $606 million for the same time period last year.

Microsoft said, "The Xbox 360 has sold 6 million consoles worldwide to date and achieved record cumulative attach rates for software and peripherals in the United States, while Xbox Live passed the 4 million member mark during the quarter.”

While the 360 has proven to be a genuine money maker, the overall numbers for the entire Entertainment and Devices division had bittersweet news. For the 2006 July-September period, the whole group lost $96 million. In the same period last year, they lost $173 million. The good news is that there was a decrease of 55% in overall losses and with the traditional holiday shopping season fast approaching, increased revenues will continue to work away at the loss column.
