Dwight Little to direct Tekken film

tekken6Variety has the news that Dwight Little (Marked for Death, Free Willy 2, Murder at 1600) will direct Tekken, the upcoming movie adaptation of the fighting video game series. Production will begin on February 4th and Crystal Sky Pictures will provide financing.

Writer Alan McElroy (Spawn TV series, Halloween 4, The Marine) wrote the film’s script and has collaborated with Little over the years, including on Halloween 4 in 1988.

Speaking with Variety, Little elaborated on the film’s premise. "The film plays out as a science fiction story set in the near future, about a rebel who rises up against the Tekken Corp. to seize freedom for his people.

It’s a gladiator story, but the videogame has a complicated enough storyline that it provides the template for a martial arts spectacular."

The entire Tekken video game series has sold over 20 million copies worldwide and Tekken 6 is expected for PlayStation 3 sometime in 2008.
