Hot rumor: 60GB HDD replacing 20GB 360 HDD

xbox displayGordon Kelly of trustedreviews.com says that he has received information from a "rock solid" tipster that indicates Microsoft will be swapping out the 20GB hard drive and replace it with a new 60GB HDD for the Xbox 360.

There’s no information on the release date but according to Kelly, plans are in motion to release the new console sometime in the second quarter of the financial year.

If the rumor proves true it will no doubt give Microsoft another shot in the arm to generate more buzz and interest in the 360. While the source says that there will be a larger hard drive for the machine there was no word on the actual console itself–whether it will be a new and more dependable model.

Since the release of the Xbox 360 it has had a difficult time in trying to dodge its image of being an unreliable machine that seems to have a usable lifespan of about a year or less before serious mechanical or electronic problems occur — resulting in sending in the machine for repairs and putting a gamer’s life on hold.

Anyone who is thinking about purchasing the 20GB Xbox 360 should probably hold off and wait to see how this story develops. Although no price has been announced for the 60GB model, hopefully the new unit won’t cost too much more than the old 20GB model.
