First Gamer's Edition of Guinness World Records to come out on March 11

Guinness Gaming RecordsFor the first time in history, Guinness World Records will release the definitive guide to all gaming records, facts and figures in Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition 2008.

Last year, Guinness included video game high scores for the first time ever. This time around, they’re looking to one-up themselves by dedicating an entire tome to the gaming community. Hitting US stores on March 11, 2008, the Gamer’s Edition announces new records such as: Halo 3 as the Highest Grossing Game In One Day generating $170 million worth of first day sales in the U.S. alone and Fastest Completion Time For A Game Of Super Mario Bros., an astounding five minutes flat. Also included are records such as Longest Prison Sentence For Playing A Computer Game, and Most Guest Stars in a Video Game.

So why has Guinness finally decided to make a gamer-centric volume? Said one Guinness spokesman, "Because the gaming industry is too big to be contained in just a few pages of the annual book. As gaming records are one of the largest sections in the Guinness World Records database it only made sense to create the Gamer’s Edition to highlight the amazing facts and figures that have made the gaming industry what it is today."

If you think you’ve got a record worthy of the book, you can head to the official Guinness site and submit your claim to fame.
