Rumor: Nintendo 3DS to be remodeled

Nintendo 3DS

The French website 01net that revealed details on both the PlayStation Vita and Wii U before either was officially announced has reported breaking news about the Nintendo 3DS. The site claims that Nintendo is working on remodeling the Nintendo 3DS with a second analog stick and a "radically toned down" 3D effect.

Apparently, Nintendo has become aware that despite its claims of "harmless" 3D effects, many consumers are still uncertain. It has also internally agreed that it was a mistake to release the handheld without a second analog stick, and is looking to rectify the mistake with both a new model and an add-on for the existing model priced around $10. The rumor also states that Nintendo is asking developers to create titles specifically designed for two analog sticks. In addition, the remodeled Nintendo 3DS will likely sport a different name altogether.

A press conference focusing solely on the 3DS has been confirmed by Nintendo, via The Wall Street Journal, that will take place on September 13, two days before the start of the Tokyo Game Show. Perhaps this is where Nintendo will reveal exactly what it’s planning for the future of the Nintendo 3DS.

This news comes shortly after the Nintendo 3DS price was radically slashed to $169.99 from its initial $249.99 price at launch.
