Valve confirms new Counter-Strike game

There have been suspicions that a new Counter-Strike game has been in the works for a while now and thanks to Valve, it has now been officially confirmed.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (or GO) is being developed by Valve in a partnership with Hidden Path Entertainment, who developed the Xbox Live Arcade and PC release, Defense Grid.

Valve has not released any screenshots or videos, but has said that there will be new maps, characters, and weapons along with updated versions of classic Counter-Strike content. The publisher/developer also mentioned that there will be new gameplay modes, matchmaking, and leaderboards.

The game is set for release early next year for the PC, Mac, PlayStation Network, and XBLA. If fans don’t want to wait that long, they can catch the game at the Penny Arcade Expo later this month.
