Katamari games coming to next-gen consoles

Say Katamari Damacy to non-gamers and they’ll think you’re talking about an Italian seafood dish. But to gamers around the world, the words bring to mind one of the most bizarre and amusing games to come down the pike in a long time.

Katamari fans will be pleased to know that their favorite sticky ball will be coming to next-gen consoles. Namco Bandai will be releasing the game Beautiful Katamari for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Few details are known at the moment about what the game will be like, but according to industry sources, the new title is about 50% complete and will offer a virtual playing area of approximately 6,214 miles.

Typical gameplay revolves around a huge Velcro-like ball. Anything and everything sticks to it and as it rolls around the terrain, it picks up everything that may stand in its way — from trash to cars to large mountains and living beings. The game first appeared on the PS2 in 2004 and became an unexpected hit thanks to its unusual and entertaining gameplay.
