Duke Nukem NOT set for release in 2008. Ho-hum…

Duke NukemUpdate: 3D Realms founder George Broussard stated again that the release date is "when it’s done," like always.

There are certain stories which seem to always crop up annually — reported sightings of UFOs, the Loch Ness monster and of course the appearance of the game Duke Nukem Forever.

In the case of the Loch Ness monster and UFOs, the possibility remains high that they are real. As for the game Duke Nukem Forever, some would say the odds are considerably less.

But 3D Realms, the developer of the game, says that the reappearance of Duke is slated for release sometime in late 2008. Now, where have we heard this sort of story before? According to them, they would like to see the game on the big three platforms.

Scott Miller, president of 3D realms said cryptically, "We haven’t formally announced the platforms for DNF. But of course hitting the big three makes the most sense." (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)

As to the release date of DNF, he said, ""We’re really excited about bringing classic Duke to the 360. We’re talking to Microsoft about getting a release slot sometime this year."

But let’s not get excited just yet because Miller added, "We may miss the mark by a month or two, but I feel very confident that we’re on the target this time."

As Han Solo would say, "I’ve got a bad feeling about this…" DNF has been delayed for over a decade so far and with constant promises that the title will be finished practically every year since 1996–no one should place their bets just yet.

I’ll reference a quote that many gamers have used in reference to DNF, "I’ll believe it when I see it."
