Blu-ray Disc Fully Authored

The controversy over next-generation disc formats has created much discussion in the technology industry. Should I buy a Blu-ray player or a HD-DVD player? Or will a player that supports both formats surface? Well, regardless of the heated arguments, Sony announced Friday that a full-length, high-definition movie had been authored to a Blu-ray disc. The entire movie on the disc is seen in MPEG 2 format at 1920 x 1080. The disc is being shipped to Blu-ray player manufactures for testing. One question that those testers must ask themselves is Does the movie install a root-kit like the Sony CD’s? But that is a different story. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment VP Don Eklund remarked on the big step in next-gen movie formats, We are extremely proud to deliver on the promise of Blu-ray. This is an important step for our industry in order to being mass production of high-definition movies in the Blu-ray format in the near future. Looks first adopters might be getting a Blu-ray players sometime in 2006.
