Halo 4 gets free Forge Island map

Halo games have always been kind to users of the franchise’s Forge map editing tool, and now Halo 4 players have the same opportunity to piece together marvelous play-spaces and humorous box sculptures alike, without cliffs or shorelines getting in the way. Starting today Forge Island is available for free on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

Announced during 343 Industries’ PAX East 2013 panel, Forge Island was said to be coming April 11, but it passed Xbox LIVE certification earlier than expected and is available to download now. Forge Island consists of several elevated rock plateaus of various sizes in the middle of an ocean, providing forgers with unconstrained areas in which to build.

Community maps from Halo 4‘s other, less open forge releases have been mixed into the game’s matchmaking, so it’s only a matter of time before we can expect to see Forge Island community maps also gracing multiplayer matches. And possibly lewd box sculptures.
