Harmonix Confirms Losing Guitar Hero To Neversoft

Amidst denials from Activision earlier last year that it was in the process of moving Guitar Hero game development from Harmonix to Neversoft, the rejections have turned out to be false, as Neversoft posted ads on their website last week looking to hire talent for the next Guitar Hero game. Today, further news has come out to substantiate what has occurred.

Daniel Sussman, one of the main individuals behind the Guitar Hero games, told Gamasutra, "Here’s the official line: Harmonix can confirm that we are not developing Guitar Hero 3." He further added, "We are instead working on a different music game project, one that is a bigger and more ambitious endeavor than we felt we could pursue within the bounds of the Guitar Hero franchise."

The concise statement given by Sussman only adds fuel to the fires of speculation within the industry as to why Activision saw it fit to reassign the duty of Guitar Hero 3 development. But regardless of the real reasons, Neversoft will be feeling the heat as it tries to create another hit Guitar Hero game in the wake of two extremely successful games produced by Harmonix.
