Turok movie to be released February 5, 2008

Turok movieFor the first time, the story of Turok will be available in DVD form. Most people know Turok for his series of games spanning the last few generations of gaming. What many don’t know is that Turok was originally a comic book character, dating back to the 1950s.

Like many other comic book franchises lately, Turok’s going to get the animated DVD treatment. The movie, Turok: Son of Stone, is being released on February 5, 2008 in the US. (In case you forgot, that’s also the day the next Turok game is being released.) Presented by The Weinstein Company, it draws on the original 1950’s comic book series, as well as influences ranging from Frank Miller to Akira Kurosawa, to create a dark, intense, epic reimagining of Turok’s origin story.

The movie will feature the voice work of Adam Beach (Flags of Our Father, "Law and Order SVU"), Robert Knepper ("Prison Break"), Cree Summer (A Different World), and Irene Bedard (Pochahontas).

In addition, it will be directed by Frank Squillace (X-Men: The Animated Series), Curt Geda (Marvel’s Ultimate Avengers), and Dan Riba (Batman Beyond), with Tad Stones (Hellboy: Blood and Iron) as supervising director. Evan Baily (Invader Zim) is the producer.

According to the press release:

During 20 years in exile, Turok has become a powerful and feared warrior. He now returns home to find his village destroyed and his family slaughtered at the hands of the ruthless tyrant Chichak. On a mission of vengeance, Turok must journey to the Lost Land, a savage place forgotten by time, where primeval beasts hunt all who enter. Turok will face his greatest battle as he fights man-eating dinosaurs, merciless cave dwellers, and the darkness inside himself to take revenge on his sworn enemy. In this epic journey, Turok will find his destiny. In this Lost Land, a legend is born.
