This Week in Microtransactions: 2/26 to 3/5

This week starts with a bang, folks. Over on Xbox Live Marketplace, if you haven’t finished Alien Hominid yet (for shame!), do so, then get ready for more digital downloads. This week, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Arcade Game has been officially announced for Live Arcade. This one is the real deal–an arcade perfect port of one of the most memorable NES games ever. 400 Microsoft Points ($5) nets your inner ten-year-old some lovin’, and–to sweeten an already sweet deal–it’s confirmed to have 2-4 player online co-op. The best part? It’s coming sooner than you think; expect it later this month.

If that isn’t enough, Mizuguchi–of Rez and Lumines fame–confirmed to 1UP that his team over at Q? Entertainment will be bringing Every Extend Extra Extreme to Live Arcade sometime this year. No pricing details have yet surfaced but the game seems to be a vastly improved port of the PSP musical puzzler. Let’s hope our wallets aren’t gouged again this time, as they were with Lumines Live. This iteration of E4 will include a mode where you can use your own CDs to generate new levels of gameplay.

Over in the world of Wii, Nintendo’s Virtual Console saw the release of Super NES classic Super Ghouls ‘N’ Ghosts and NES title Elevator Action this past Monday. Pony up the 800 Wii Points ($8) to be frustrated all over again in the ultra-hard and ultra-fun Ghouls. My nostalgia–and broken controllers–tells me it’s a solid purchase. Elevator Action, running for 500 Wii Points ($5), is a side scrolling jump-and-shoot oldie. Five bucks isn’t much to risk, but if you remember this one from the olden days, it’s the same as it ever was.

Unfortunately, this week has brought no new announcements for the Sony Store. Expect that to change later this week, following Phil Harrison’s GDC keynote. Big things are expected from Sony, so keep your eyes on GN for all the details.
