Kingdom Hearts 3D coming to North America next year

Kingdom Hearts 3D

The seemingly never-ending wait for Kingdom Hearts III continues, but fans of the franchise will have a new release to look forward to next year.

Square Enix has announced that Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance] will arrive in North American stores in 2012.

The upcoming 3DS RPG will include both Sora and Riku as playable characters. New creatures and Disney worlds will be introduced, and players will be able to recruit Spirits as allies.

Tetsuya Nomura, director of Kingdom Hearts 3D, talked about how the game’s story will play a critical role in the series.

“With the tenth anniversary of the series on the horizon, the current Kingdom Hearts saga is approaching its climactic conclusion,” he said. “The story of this game will serve as the opening chapter of the final conflict, and, as always, will be full of surprises.”

With Kingdom Hearts 3D marking the “opening chapter of the final conflict,” hopefully an announcement regarding Kingdom Hearts III isn’t too far away.

My first experience playing a video game blew me away. The fact that Super Metroid was that game certainly helped. So I like to think Samus put me on the path to video games. Well, I guess my parents buying the SNES had a little something to do with it. Ever since then my passion for video games has grown. When I found that I could put words together into a coherent sentence, videogame journalism was a natural interest. Now I spend a large majority of my time either playing video games or writing about them, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
