OnLive coming to Google TV

OnLive

Google TV will be receiving a new videogame presence according to a press release from OnLive, Inc.

The OnLive cloud gaming service will be integrated by Google as a standard feature on all Google TV devices. OnLive Viewer, the program behind OnLive’s social features, is available right now, while full functionality will be coming “soon.”

OnLive Founder and CEO Steve Perlman talked about how this new partnership is big news for the videogame medium.

“OnLive integration into Google TV is a huge leap forward for video games,” he said. “Consumers have come to expect instant gratification with music, movies and video. Now, with OnLive, players in the US and soon in the UK can just as easily stream the highest-quality games to their Google TV devices for play instantly on demand, without discs or downloads.”

Time will tell whether this move proves successful for Google and OnLive.

My first experience playing a video game blew me away. The fact that Super Metroid was that game certainly helped. So I like to think Samus put me on the path to video games. Well, I guess my parents buying the SNES had a little something to do with it. Ever since then my passion for video games has grown. When I found that I could put words together into a coherent sentence, videogame journalism was a natural interest. Now I spend a large majority of my time either playing video games or writing about them, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
