Painkiller movie on the way

painkillerTime to get your movie groove on since Painkiller is the latest game that’ll get the big screen treatment. The hlariously named production company, Guy Walks Into a Bar, scooped up the film rights this past week and head honcho Jon Berg (Out of Time, Elf) will produce the film with partner Todd Komarnicki (Elf).

This marks Dreamcatcher’s first game to be licensed for a film. Berg got interested in pursuing this movie after seeing a "60 Minutes" episode which focused on competitive gaming. One the main games in this year’s Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) was, unsurprisingly, Painkiller; the CPL is one of the biggest competitive game tournaments in the world.

Painkiller was originally released in 2004 from People Can Fly for PC. Eventually it got an expansion pack, Battle Out of Hell, and a port to the Xbox. Ports to the PS2 and PSP have been announced along with a sequel titled Painkiller: Overdose, which is expected in October.
