BioShock sells 400k copies in debut week

bioshockshotAccording to VGChartz, 2K Games’ BioShock sold 400,000 copies on the Xbox 360 during its debut week. Not counting PC sales, which are bound to be marginally smaller, the game may be on track to sell over a million copies.

The game is backed by heavy marketing, is based on a completely new game franchise and is receiving rave reviews. The game seems to be on target to be a monster success.

Other lingering U.S. game details for the week include Wii Play, which has sold over 2 million units for the week. There were 21 Xbox 360 titles to chart in the top 200 and sold over 250,000 units. Let’s compare that to the Wii, which had 11 titles in the top 200 and sold 250,000 units, or the PS3, which just had 5 titles in the top 200 and sold over 250,000 units. Looks like it was a good week for everybody all around as far as units were concerned.

General hardware sales for the week of August 25th are as followed:

DS – 114,408 units sold
Wii – 101,932 units sold
Xbox 360 – 64,046 units sold
PSP – 47,121 units sold
PS3 – 43,354 units sold
