Movie news: Halo, KoF, and Woo! Oh my!

halographicIn an update to the currently-in-limbo Halo film, Peter Jackson spoke with OnFilm magazine about a variety of his upcoming films, including his thoughts on the Halo movie. Jackson stated that he "expected renewed interest from Hollywood studios 20th Century Fox and Universal Pictures to have Halo made as the Halo 3 video game will be released later this year."

In addition, Jackson and partner Fran Walsh would only return to work on Halo only if director Neill Blomkamp returns as director. The movie was shelved back in October when Universal and Fox pulled their support.

In addition, they’ve hired Gordon Chan ("The Medallion", "Fist of Legend") to direct the movie and writer Chris Chow ("Fearless") to pen a script.

The film will be a live-action, English language film and will be funded by Japanese production company Micott-Basara and Australian agent company Arclight. No release date yet.

johnwooLastly, acclaimed game developer Warren Spector (Deus Ex, System Shock) has partnered up with action film director John Woo for an upcoming video game called Ninja Gold. It’s unknown which party will actually be doing the game developing but Woo will be bringing Ninja Gold to the big screen, too.

Spector has his Austin, Texas-based Junction Point Studios (currently working on a Source-engine fantasy project) while Woo is currently collaborating with Midway on Stranglehold.

Ninja Gold tells the story of a ninja from an ancient clan dealing with modern-day warfare. Woo will begin production on the film next year, but the development time on the game is unknown.
