EA planning more Sims, LotR, Burnout, Skate, Rock Band and more

ealogoFiringSquad has a recap of EA’s annual analyst day, where several EA executives dropped hints and gave information regarding several upcoming games and sequels, including for Knights of the Old Republic, Sims, Lord of the Rings, Burnout, Rock Band, Skate and Need for Speed.

First, EA is planning sequels or new games in the following franchises: Burnout, Skate, Need for Speed and Rock Band. Burnout Paradise achieved critical success while other titles such as Skate and Rock Band have sold rather well – the latter sold over 1.5 million copies.

Second, EA is planning several new games within its Sims and SimCity franchises, including sequels to MySims, titled MySims Kingdom (DS and Wii) and MySims Party (DS and Wii) and the next "true game" in The Sims franchise. Sequels were garnered for MySims after the game shipped over 3 million units worldwide. Also new establishments of the Sims and SimCity games will be made within the next two years, including SimCity Creator and SimAnimals.

Third, Spore was finally given the release date of September 7th yesterday and will launch for PC, Mac, Nintendo DS and mobile phones. EA confirmed that Spore will head to other platforms, but denied which ones.

Fourth, The next video game based on The Godfather is still being worked on, possibly with EA Redwood Shores. This was originally hinted at back in May 2007.

Fifth, Shacknews is reporting that Pandemic Studios (Full Spectrum Warrior, Star Wars Battlefront I & II) is working on a new Lord of the Rings video game. EA cancelled a previous LotR game but retained the game rights till this year.

Lastly, Shacknews is throwing around that BioWare is working on the next Knights of the Old Republic game, in addition to its rumored MMORPG, which may not be Star Wars related after all.
