Modern Warfare 3 reaches $1 billion in sales

Modern Warfare 3

According to an Activision press release earlier today, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has marked another resounding success in the famed military shooter franchise.

Since its release on November 8, 2011, Modern Warfare 3 has reached $1 billion in sales. The milestone was acquired in just 16 days, topping the 2009 film “Avatar,” which achieved the same feat in 17 days.

Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard, commented on how the Call of Duty franchise is having a profound effect on the videogame industry.

“Engagement of our Call of Duty audience continues to rise around the world,” he said. “Call of Duty as an entertainment franchise has made an indelible mark on popular culture and its broad and continued success is further validation that audiences increasingly value interactive experiences over passive experiences.”

With this kind of success under its belt, it only seems natural that Activision will continue to push the Call of Duty name. The announcement of another entry in the franchise shouldn’t be too far off.

My first experience playing a video game blew me away. The fact that Super Metroid was that game certainly helped. So I like to think Samus put me on the path to video games. Well, I guess my parents buying the SNES had a little something to do with it. Ever since then my passion for video games has grown. When I found that I could put words together into a coherent sentence, videogame journalism was a natural interest. Now I spend a large majority of my time either playing video games or writing about them, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
