Ubisoft getting into the movie business

assassin's creed filmIn a keynote during the annual Edinburgh Interactive Festival, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that Ubisoft will be pushing toward making movies. Guillemot believes that movies will create better games.

He stated, "We will have to start making movies, because if we don’t do it, we won’t be able to take advantage of the power of the next generation. In creating movies and games at the same time, we see what we have to improve to make better games as well."

In addition, Ubisoft will be able to create more products for the entire entertainment market, "We are moving towards launching books, games and movies at the same time. The movie industry creates more ideas than us at the moment…"

This idea started from an 8 minute CGI movie short based on Ubisoft’s upcoming action game Assassin’s Creed. Back in February, Ubisoft opened up a brand-new CGI film studio in Quebec, Canada, and one of its first projects was this Assassin’s Creed short. They have more movie shorts for other games planned, but none have been announced yet. A movie based on Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of time series is also in-development with Jerry Bruckheimer producing.
