Newly announced PC games: 6/10 to 6/16

Area51aliensIt was a little more active this past week with new game announcements. Sony is starting up another online shooter and EA finally officially announced the next SimCity game.

While the new title appears to be taking steps in a new direction, I wouldn’t discredit Tilted Mill for these new ideas. They did, however, do a decent job with the Caesar strategy game series, so it’s won’t be a total loss.

Here are the new PC game announcements for the past week.

1C Company announced Death Track: Resurrection this past week, the upcoming sequel to the classic 1989 combat racing game Deathtrack. The game is in the works by Sky Fallen Entertainment and the sequel will put players back into the post-apocalyptic future where racing and combat intertwine. Death Track: Resurrection carries a release date sometime in 2008.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Harvey Smith, Creative Director for Midway Austin, revealed that a sequel is currently being planned for the 2005 FPS from Midway, Area 51. The new addition will be called Blacksite: Area 51. It will be released in September.

EA officially announced the next game in their long-running franchise, SimCity. Initially revealed last week, SimCity Societies will be developed by Tilted Mill Entertainment, a departure from the usual SimCity developer, Maxis. The game will feature over 350 building types, in all of which can be combined, connected or re-structured, and a brand-new system called "social energies", in which it’ll dictate different social energies (industry, knowledge, devotion) in your city. The game will be released in November.

Sony Online Entertainment is cooking up another online shooter, but this time, it’ll be espionage/spy-themed. Called The Agency, the online game will be developed by SOE Seattle and is currently set for release for PC and PlayStation 3. Players will play elite agents in the modern-day world and will focus on both solo and group gameplay. Planned character skills are combat, support, stealth and cover identities. The two feuding factions are UNITE and ParaGON. The game doesn’t have a release date as of yet.
