Some would argue that putting Uwe Boll and the title of movie director in the same sentence is a bit of an oxymoron.
To many gamers and film critics alike, Boll represents the worst in filmmaking. With movies such as House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark, BloodRayne, BloodRayne II: Deliverance, and In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, Mr. Boll has secured a spot in history as possibly the worst film director of video game tie-in movies.
There are a lot of people out there who want to do something about Boll’s film making career. In short, they want to stop it. In a recent interview conducted by fearnet.com, it was mentioned to Boll that there was a petition circulating around the Internet that called for him to stop making movies.
When he asked how many signatures were on the petition at the time of his interview, he was told there were 18,000 signatures. He replied, "Yeah, I know that. 18,000 is not enough to convince me."
So how many signatures would convince him? Boll said, "One million. Now we have a new goal." From the latest count, there are close to 117,000 signatures on the petition.
Whether the Master of Disaster was kidding or not remains to be seen. But considering that he has thrown down the gauntlet and has given all Boll haters a goal to reach for, maybe one million signatures isn’t entirely out of reach.
If you feel strongly enough to do something about Mr. Boll, or you love to sign signatures on petitions that won’t do anything, put your John Hancock on the Internet dotted line, here.
For those of you who don’t want to take the energy to click on the link, here is the petition’s text:
To: Dr. Uwe Boll
We, the undersigned, respectfully ask that Uwe Boll give proper weight to the wishes of the video game community, the horror community, and the film going community in general and stop directing, producing, or taking any part in the creation of feature films. His distasteful handling of the subject matter and lack of acknowledgement of his failures simply cannot be abided any longer.
Mr. Boll has repeatedly shown a complete lack of comprehension regarding the videogames he has dragged, kicking and screaming, to the silver screen and his ham-fisted approach to horror has soiled future possibilities for anyone else who may attempt to bring videogames to film.
Sincerely,
Boll claims to have a doctorate degree in literature. Some believe he should have majored in film instead…
