New Info on Splinter Cell and CoD4

In the latest issue of Game Informer, they’ve got the low-down on three upcoming games: Call of Duty 4, Splinter Cell: Conviction and Rise of the Argonauts.

CallofDuty4First up is Call of Duty 4. They confirm that it’ll be coming to PC (Call of Duty 3 skipped PC) along for PS3 and Xbox 360. The storyline encompasses a renegade Russian warlord stirring up some trouble in an unnamed Middle Eastern country.

In typical evil-fashion, this trouble is actually a cover-up for the warlord’s most evilest plan: trying to nab more power in Russia.

Only one military force has been confirmed, the US Force Recon Marines, while the British SAS and Russian loyalist forces are possible too. The game will use flashbacks to flesh out the story and multiplayer will use an experience system to unlock new weapons and items. The game is planned for this fall.

The next game is Splinter Cell: Conviction and Ubisoft Montreal will return as the developer. The game is currently planned for PC and Xbox 360. This time around, Sam Fisher is no longersplintercellconviction part of Third Echelon. (Warning: spoiler coming) He is now an enemy of the state–as made evident by the events revealed in Splinter Cell: Double Agent.

In addition, a majority of the missions will take place during the day and Fisher’s stealth techniques will involve disappearing in plain sight — being lost in a crowd of people, for example; Assassin’s Creed anyone? Both games are developed by the same company. There will be more interaction with the game’s environments and characters — Fisher can throw things to distract people too. The game is set for release this fall.

Last on the list is Rise of the Argonauts, the upcoming Greek/Roman-themed action/RPG from Liquid Entertainment and Codemasters. The game is set for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC and will revolve around the Greek myth of Jason and his Argonauts as he tries to search for the Golden Fleece.

jasonYou’ll pilot Jason’s ship, the Argo, to travel to different islands. As you progress through the game, Jason will enlist more Argonauts to help out. Combat will be in real-time and powers from the gods can help you out. The game will use the Unreal Engine 3, will have a two-player co-op mode. It is set for release sometime in 2008.
