Michael Bay to direct Prince of Persia movie?

According to IESB, a director and a release date has been attached to the upcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time film. The film has been in-development for some time with Jerry Bruckheimer attached as executive producer. Now, Bruckheimer will be re-teaming with his action film buddy, director Michael Bay for the Prince of Persia film as Bay is now directing. The film is slated for a summer ’09 release date.

IESB received confirmation from Disney Studios that Bay will be starting up the film after he finishes his Transformers movie for this summer. Original creator of the Prince of Persia series and writer and game designer for Sands of Time, Jordan Mechner, penned the original script for the film with subsequent drafts from writer Jeffrey Nachmanoff — who wrote the screenplay for The Day After Tomorrow. Mechner stated, "Rather than do a straight beat-for-beat adaptation of the new videogame, we’re taking some cool elements from the game and using them to craft a new story – much as ‘Pirates’ [of the Caribbean] did with the theme park ride."
