Sony Denies Plans for PSP Price Drop

Rumors flew last week with news surfacing of another major price reduction for Sony,s PSP handheld console. The PSP, which originally was released at a MSRP of $250, had been reduced to $199. A recent news story on CNNMoney indicated that the PSP was going for another dip in price (to $149 USD) sometime during the Nov-Dec holiday season.

Today, a representative from Sony UK dismissed the reports by saying to Game Industry that, "Currently we have no plans to cut the price of the PSP at this time.” Although Sony dismisses the price drop story, it is standard industry policy to deflate rumors by using the phrase “there are no plans at this time,” in order to avoid issuing a flat denial.

Whether there is a planned price reduction for the PSP is up for speculation. However, with the success Nintendo,s DS Lite constantly reminding Sony that it is a two horse
